BJ King, born Bal Johal in Derby ‘The Midlands’ United Kingdom. Parents migrated to England in the late 50’s from the Punjab, Central India, BJ being the youngest of three children his sister Rajinder and Brother Joey.

BJ is married to Jaz with two children, son Tajinder and daughter Davina.

BJ from a very early age enjoyed listening and singing styles of music by different artists but Elvis was always his favourite. Other boyhood heroes include Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali and the legendary Brian Clough, former manager of Derby County of who BJ is a keen fan of.

It was when his brother Joey purchased the Elvis 40 greatest hit album in 1975 that BJ became totally hooked on the Elvis phenomenon at the age of 15. But essentially BJ has always said he is a lover of music and just as Elvis admired the work

of friends, Roy Orbison and Tom Jones, so did BJ. ‘Roy Orbison, greatest singer in the world’-Elvis Presley,1977.

BJ as initially a hobby collected 100’s of backing tracks of his favourite music including soul, reggae, pop and more, which he practised singing to on his home equipment, waiting for an opportunity.

But it was when his sister, Rajinder entered BJ into a national talent contest in Birmingham singing with ‘live’ musicians that he got the ‘Itch’ to perform after reaching the semi-final stage with hardly any experience.

This now motivated BJ to sing professionally but first to gain more experience he entered numerous National Talent Contests, winning trophies, awards but more importantly the opportunity to work with live musicians, which proved to be invaluable in his later professional career.

It was June 2000 that BJ. King sang professionally for the first time helped by local agents.

As much as BJ loved the music of Elvis he was determined not to become stereotyped as just an Elvis Tribute Act. So he went on to develop a variety show that included a 15 minute Elvis finale, but a lot more as well. This show became to be known as The Trip Back in Time show, as a

certain compere introduced BJ on stage as ‘BJ. King takes you on a trip back in time.
The Trip Back In Time show after a lot of chopping and changing had now been developed and audience reaction was telling BJ it was time to create The Elvis Tribute show that only he, with his tremendous vocal range and few other artists could do justice to.

His long term friend from the infant school days, John who had long moved to the states surprised BJ with an unbelievable package, containing over 300 superb Elvis backing tracks, not yet readily available in the U.K at the time, made in the U.S.A. These were the missing key to fit BJ’s voice. The Elvis Tribute was made. Thanks John.

Special thanks to Paul, friend confidant and show co-ordinator.

BJ is now a freelance artist!
